Kapha Dosha: (Water + Earth Elements)
Kapha ( Water + Earth), popularly known as the watery dosha, has the properties of being cold, heavy, and moist. Kapha is responsible for structural development and lubrication within the body. It governs the growth of the dhatus (bodily tissues) - the blood, fat, muscles, bones, marrow, and other fluids in the body. It is responsible for cell division, growth, multiplication, regeneration & wear and tear of cells, reconstruction, adhesiveness, substrate, etc.
Kapha is also responsible for nourishment, viscidity, the solidarity of the body, strength of the joints, sexual vigor, patience, forbearance, and fortitude.
Kapha Imbalance:
An imbalance of Kapha leads to problems like water retention in the body, sluggishness, laziness, drowsiness, being over-emotional, and the lack of motivation to move or to want to take action. Kapha is inherently stable, so it is difficult to throw it out of balance.
When Kapha does get aggravated, it most likely manifests as a problem with weak digestion and Ama.
