Introduction to Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an age-old science that has prevailed in India since the Pre-Buddhist era. It comprises a holistic understanding of health and caters to the whole body-mind-spirit complex.

Unlike modern medicine which treats symptoms, Ayurveda treats the root of the problem. More than the traditional medicinal system of India, Ayurveda is a life science that throws light upon corrective diet and lifestyle measures, with somatic practices like Yoga and meditation, the use of herbal remedies and medicine, and rejuvenation therapies like massages and 'Panchakarma'.

The origins of Ayurveda are found in the 'Atharvaveda', which is said to contain 114 hymns and incantations described as magical cures for diseases. Ayurveda aims to promote happiness and health, and enhances creative growth in the individual that practises it.
